The minutes of the previous meeting and financial report were approved as presented. The Committee agreed that an “Account Review” should be done by an outside firm since one has not been done in many years. Dr. Keppel and Ms. Maerker will explore different firms and bring information back to the Committee at a future meeting.
Future Meetings: Dec. 5: Annual Holiday Dinner (Westmoor Country Club); Brookfield East Jazz Trio; 2008: March 5; (TBA) May 7; (TBA) June 4; Annual Meeting, (Golden Mast Inn); September 3 Town Hall Meeting, (Golden Mast Inn) and December 3; Holiday Dinner Dance.
Suggested speakers for upcoming meetings included Mr. Mark Grapentine (Society) on “Role of a Lobbyist”and Assemblywoman Leah Vukmir.
Report of the Wisconsin Medical Society: Mr. Grapentine gave an update on issues in Madison. He said that Healthy Wisconsin has been removed from the budget and will probably be presented as a separate bill in the future. He said that the Workers Compensation Fee Schedule was agreed upon and that no changes would be made. The tamper resistant prescription pads have been delayed for at least 6 months in Washington. The Society has a plan set up should the Governor raid the IPFCF.
Dr. Sri Vasudevan and Dr. Thomas Luetzow have submitted nomination papers for President of the Wisconsin Medical Society (Society). These will be presented to the Society Nominating Committee for consideration. Because both Drs. Vasudevan and Luetzow are currently on the Nominating Committee, the names of Drs. McAvoy and Holmburg will be submitted to replace them on this committee for this year.
A letter was presented which had been sent by the WCMS President, Dr. Keppel, to the Society Chair of the Board, asking that should the raid of the IPFCF take place, that the Society keep the general membership informed of the options that will be considered, and that the BOD is acting on behalf of and as true representatives of the general membership in this very sensitive issue.
The meeting of the District I Executive Council will be held on Monday, October 8.
New Business: A copy of the letter sent to all members for the “2007 Christmas Card Scholarship Fund Drive” was presented for informational purposes only.
Dr. McAvoy presented a resolution asking the WCMS to create a special category of membership called “Honor Member.” Candidates would be distinguished medical society leaders who have made special contributions to the doctors and patients in Waukesha County. These members would be proposed by a member of the Executive Committee and elected to membership by a unanimous vote of the committee.
Information was presented on a teleconference that the Addiction Resource Council will be hosting in December and January. It is a four part series targeting physicians who deliver babies, to discuss the importance of providing substance abuse screening and referral for pregnant women. This series is free and CMEs are available. If interested, please contact Monica Edlhuber at 262-524-7921 or

The meeting was adjourned at 1 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Dawn M. Maerker
