The Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation is pleased to note the approval of the following grant awards for 2007 projects.
Cops 'N Kids Reading Center, Inc.
Nutrition Education Program for Parents and Kids
This grant will support the work of a dietician to meet with both children and parents and teach them the
fundamentals of shopping wisely and eating for a healthy lifestyle. Cops 'N Kids Reading Center serves
at-risk children throughout Racine County by providing education support and life skills training to the
children and their parents.
Award: $5,000
Prairie du Chien Historical Society
The Fort Crawford Museum Medical History and Health Project
Expansion of educational programs on Medical History and Medical Health issues to include revision and updating
of older medical exhibits and completion of new exhibits.
Award: $4,600 from the Earl and Alice Thayer Fund.
(This is the second year of a total award of $9,600)
Safe Community Coalition
Reducing Falls in Dane County through Community/Medical Partnerships
A Falls Prevention Task Force will oversee a coordinated effort by community organizations and
the medical community to reduce falls among older adults in Dane County.
Award: $15,000 from the Henry A. and Irene S. Anderson Endowment
Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center
This project will focus on secondary prevention of child maltreatment in children who were previously
victimized by establishing a statewide network to provide peer review and mentoring to increase the
competency of physicians and ancillary health care professionals working in the field of child maltreatment.
Award: $15,000
Smoke Free Wisconsin
2007 Statewide Tobacco Control and Prevention Conference
This 2007 conference will promote the latest successful tobacco control strategies to more that 350
tobacco control professionals throughout Wisconsin.
Award: $2,500
University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health
Medical Students for Minority Concerns 20th Annual Health Fair
This annual health fair reaches out to Madison's underserved communities while providing a valuable
educational opportunity for medical students.
Award: $2,500
Wisconsin Medical Society
Engaging Physicians in Healthcare Quality
This initiative is designed to standardize and coalesce state quality efforts by helping
physicians embrace, engage and lead quality and cost efficiency efforts.
Award: $20,000 from the PIC Wisconsin Fund
