2013 Foundation Grant Recipients

The Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation is pleased to note the approval of the following grant awards for 2013 projects.


Community GroundWorks, Madison
Garden Fit Program
An innovative nutrition education project for preschool and elementary aged children in the Madison area. Through hands-on culinary and gardening activities children will learn the benefits of eating fresh fruits and vegetables and engaging in outdoor exercise with the goal of reducing rates of obesity and overweight.
Award: $10,000

Health Literacy Wisconsin, a division of Wisconsin Literacy, Inc., Statewide
Advancing Medication Health Literacy
This grant will support developing and executing twelve plain language educational workshops for seniors, addressing how to overcome barriers in understanding medication labels and how to communicate effectively with pharmacists.
Award: $7,500

Advance Care Planning CME Session
A session with CME credits at the Society’s 2013 Annual Meeting focused on the Society’s advance care planning initiative, Honoring Choices Wisconsin.
Award: $6,500

YMCA of Dane County, Dane County
Salsa, Sabor y Salud Program
Evaluation and expansion of a pilot program to improve awareness of habits leading to better nutrition and increased physical activity for Latino families with children12 and younger.
Award: $2,436
