The statement below is attributable to Wisconsin Medical Society Chief Medical Officer Donn Dexter, MD

“On behalf of Wisconsin physicians, the Wisconsin Medical Society applauds the Governor’s call for a special legislative session to combat opioid abuse. The recommended package of bills and state agency actions detailed in today’s report from the Governor’s Task Force on Opioid Abuse co-chairs is ambitious, which is exactly what dealing with this crisis demands. We look forward to continued bipartisan coordination with the Governor, the Legislature, law enforcement and other health care groups to ensure our citizens who are addicted get help as well as doing everything possible to prevent new addiction.”

With more than 12,500 members dedicated to the best interests of their patients, the Wisconsin Medical Society is the largest association of medical doctors in the state and a trusted source for health policy leadership since 1841.
