The statement below is attributable to Wisconsin Medical Society President Noel Deep, MD, FACP

“Today’s recommendations from the co-chairs of the Governor’s Task Force on Opioid Abuse represent another important step in fighting the opioid epidemic. This positive progress also shows how the collaboration among physicians, policymakers and law enforcement creates a productive environment for frank discussion and agreement on how best to attack the myriad issues we are facing.

“We are also pleased that the Governor’s Executive Order creating a Commission on Substance Abuse Treatment Delivery includes Wisconsin physicians from key medical specialty groups.

“On behalf of our members, who are physicians of all specialties throughout the state, the Wisconsin Medical Society looks forward to more of this collaboration and implementation of some of the ideas unveiled today. We all must work together to solve this crisis, and physicians are dedicated to finding effective solutions.”
