Wertsch talks about
Medicare on AMA video

Wisconsin Medical Society Past President Paul Wertsch, MD, is featured on an American Medical Association (AMA) video about transitioning to a higher-performing Medicare program. A member of the AMA’s Council on Medical Service, Dr. Wertsch is one of the founders of Wildwood Clinic in Madison.

The video also includes comments by U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius; AMA CEO and Executive Vice President James Madara, MD; Nancy Nielsen, MD, senior adviser to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation; and Paul Ginsberg, PhD, president of the Center for Studying Health System Change.

In the video, Dr. Wertsch comments, “The quote from Winston Churchill is ‘Never, never, never give up,’ and I think we have to keep working at it. It’s too important for our patients and too important for us to give up on.”

In October 2012, the Society and more than 100 other state and specialty medical groups sent letters to several members of Congress, offering a set of principles for a transition from the sustainable growth rate formula to a higher-performing Medicare program. More information is on the AMA website.
