Improve the health of the people of Wisconsin by supporting and strengthening physicians' ability to practice high-quality patient care in a changing environment.

Medicare contract protests denied

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) last week denied protests of the Jurisdiction 6 (J6) Medicare contract awarded to National Government Services (NGS). Wisconsin Physicians Service (WPS), which has been a contracted payer of Medicare Part B claims in Wisconsin since 1966, will continue to administer Part B claims for covered services in Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota until the new contract is implemented. The transition is expected to take five to seven months.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and NGS will notify physicians and other health care professionals of the implementation dates after they have been finalized and will provide information about actions that must be taken to support the implementation.

In October 2012, WPS and Noridian Administrative Services protested the J6 Medicare contract, which CMS awarded to NGS on September 27, 2012. More information about the J6 contract is available on the CMS website.
