Improve the health of the people of Wisconsin by supporting and strengthening physicians' ability to practice high-quality patient care in a changing environment.

IT roadmap for accountable care organizations available online

The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) has published the first IT roadmap for accountable care organizations (ACOs). The ACO HIT Framework is designed as a starting point for physician groups as they address changing reimbursement policies that encourage greater accountability for cost, quality and patient-focused care.

More than 450 health care groups are in an ACO or some other form of financial risk arrangement, including several in Wisconsin. ACOs are groups of physicians, hospitals and other health care professionals who come together voluntarily to give coordinated, high-quality care to their patients. Medicare offers several ACO programs that reward participants for the savings they achieve.

The ACO HIT Framework is available on the CCHIT website.
