To help physicians keep pace with the many changes in health care today, the Wisconsin Medical Society is offering the webinar Leaders Making a Commitment to Improvement: What Every Physician Leader Needs to Know on Thursday, July 18. Topics for discussion include Institute of Medicine (IOM) reports, the patient-centered medical home, maintenance of certification and performance improvement.

Mary Ales, executive director of the Interstate Postgraduate Medical Association (IPMA), and Cheri L. Olson, MD, medical director of IPMA and chair of the Society’s Council on Medical Education and Professional Development, will discuss the environmental drivers of improvement efforts during the webinar from noon to 1:15 p.m. AMA PRA Category 1 Credit&#0153 is available for this Society-sponsored learning opportunity. Click here to register.

The presenters also will discuss a strategy for staying current and incorporating the environmental changes in practice. The webinar will emphasize the need for all organizations and health care teams to work toward the IOM’s “Six Aims for Improvement.”

Following the webinar, participants should be able to identify which environmental drivers affect their organizations and health care in general and be able to describe the importance of improvements for everyone involved in health care.

Doctor Olson is associate director of family medicine residency for Mayo Clinic Health System – Franciscan Healthcare in La Crosse. Ms. Ales has served as IPMA’s executive director for 10 years, providing medical education to physicians and health care professionals.
