Improve the health of the people of Wisconsin by supporting and strengthening physicians' ability to practice high-quality patient care in a changing environment.

Aurora BayCare leader honored

Wisconsin Medical Society member Paul Summerside, MMM, MD, of Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay is among 30 recipients of the inaugural Leadership Awards from Becker’s Healthcare. Donna Katen-Bahensky, president and CEO of University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison also will receive a Leadership Award in Chicago next week.

A founder of Aurora BayCare, Dr. Summerside serves as its chief medical officer and chief compliance officer. According to a news release about the honor, “Dr. Summerside’s commitment to quality has been evident throughout the medical center’s short but robust history. The hospital became the first in the country to guarantee service in the ED within 33 minutes, and it began tracking complications, infection rates and other quality-related outcomes years before it became standard practice in hospitals.” Doctor Summerside is a practicing emergency medicine physician.

Ms. Katen-Bahensky joined UW Hospital and Clinics in 2008, and under her leadership the hospital has received national recognition for its quality of care and dedicated medical staff, according to the news release. She also has been a leading advocate of the organization’s patient- and family-centered care culture, the release said.

The Becker’s Healthcare Leadership Awards recognize men and women who have made remarkable contributions and will leave lasting legacies to their respective health systems, hospitals and communities. A panel of editorial team members and health care industry experts reviewed the numerous nominations for the inaugural awards.
