Assembly overwhelmingly OKs informed consent bill
By more than a 2-1 margin, the Wisconsin State Assembly on Wednesday evening approved legislation clarifying physicians’ informed consent requirements. Assembly Bill 139 was approved on a bipartisan 65-31 vote and now moves to the State Senate. Read more.

The Wisconsin Medical Society understands that physicians want and need to know what’s happening at the state and U.S. Capitols. To ensure that Society members have access to timely updates – often as lawmakers are discussing and voting on issues – the Society recently launched “The Insider.” Read more.

Society urges lawmakers to support Tuition Assistance Program
The Wisconsin Medical Society and several other health care organizations encouraged the State Legislature’s Joint Committee on Finance to support the Tuition Assistance Program in the 2013-2015 biennial budget. The initiative is designed to increase the number of primary care physicians in current and future shortage areas. Read more.

Risk adjustment is one of the reimbursement models used by insurers, including Medicare Advantage, to account for differences in expected health costs of individuals. County Medical Society tax form reminder
Tax-exempt organizations (including County Medical Societies) are required to file an annual information return with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The deadline for filing Form 990 is the 15th day of the fifth month after the organization’s accounting year ends. For calendar-year organizations, the due date is May 15. Read more.
