Society testifies on addiction-related legislation
Society Vice Speaker Mike Miller, MD, FASAM, FAPA, appeared before the State Assembly’s Committee on Criminal Justice today in support of three bills aimed at combating opioid addiction and abuse. The committee approved each bill unanimously, clearing the way for the full Assembly to consider the proposals next Tuesday. Read more.

New law averts Medicare physician payment cut through March
The Pathway for SGR Reform Act of 2013, signed by President Barack Obama last month, prevents a Medicare payment reduction of more than 20 percent for physicians and other health care professionals. Read more.

Seventh Circuit affirms temporary stay of admitting privileges requirement
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit filed a decision on December 20, 2013, in Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, Inc. v. Van Hollen, et al., affirming a temporary injunction staying a requirement that physicians performing abortions in Wisconsin must have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of where an abortion is performed. Applications for Cardiovascular Prevention Enhancement Program due Feb. 28
The Wisconsin Initiative to Promote Healthy Lifestyles (WIPHL) and Transform Wisconsin have issued a call for applications for their CDC-funded Cardiovascular Prevention Enhancement Program (CPEP). CPEP aims to help Wisconsin clinics improve outcomes for their patients with type 2 diabetes, hypertension or lipid disorders. Read more.

From CMS: Review Your 2013 PQRS Interim Claims Feedback Data
Individual eligible professionals (EPs) who reported at least one PQRS quality measure in 2013 via claims-based reporting can now view first and second quarter data (January 2013 – June 2013) regarding their submissions using the 2013 PQRS Interim Feedback Dashboard. Read more.
