Governor Scott Walker has announced that Wisconsin is one of seven states selected to participate in a National Governor’s Association Center for Best Practices Policy Academy. The Policy Academy will be an opportunity for states to develop and implement statewide plans to meet future health care workforce needs.
The Wisconsin Medical Society will join a team led by the Governor’s office, which will include the Department of Safety and Professional Services, the Department of Workforce Development, the Division of Public Health and Office of Primary Care at the Department of Health Services. Also joining the team will be representatives from the University of Wisconsin’s School of Medicine and Public Health and Area Health Education Center, Wisconsin’s Technical College System, the Wisconsin Council on Mental Health and the Wisconsin Hospital Association.
Topics to be covered by the Policy Academy include developing education and training of existing professionals, streamlining licensing requirements, analyzing data on upcoming workforce needs, and examining opportunities for new types of professionals.
Wisconsin’s team will be joined by teams from six other states: Colorado, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Oklahoma.
