Legislative committee approves 10% reduction in Fund fees

A joint committee of the State Legislature on Tuesday officially approved the 10 percent reduction in Injured Patients and Families Compensation Fund (Fund) fees that took effect on July 1, 2014. Due to quirks in the State Legislature’s schedule in even-numbered years, a timing gap occurs between the time the Fund’s Board of Governors approves new rates and when the legislative committee—the Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules—can meet to approve the rule proposal.

The committee, which is made up of members from both the State Assembly and State Senate, unanimously approved the rule reducing the fees. The Wisconsin Medical Society attended the hearing and registered in favor of the rule.
