Improve the health of the people of Wisconsin by supporting and strengthening physicians' ability to practice high-quality patient care in a changing environment.

2015 resolutions now available for review and comment on Society website

Resolutions to be considered at the 2015 Wisconsin Medical Society Annual Meeting are now available through the Society’s Virtual Reference Committees (VRCs). These VRCs allow members to view and submit comments on resolutions through the Society’s website prior to the Annual Meeting, in order to foster greater and earlier discussion and to allow members who cannot attend the Annual Meeting to submit their views.

The Society’s primary method of developing policies is through the House of Delegates (HOD). Policies adopted by the HOD guide the Society’s decisions and activities on a variety of health care issues. Resolutions submitted by Society members provide the framework for this policy development.

To review resolutions and submit or view comments, go to the 2015 Resolutions page of the Society website.* More information about the Society’s VRCs, including instructions, is here.

Comments may be submitted through VRCs until April 20. Resolutions and comments will remain viewable to members through the Annual Meeting, which is April 25-26 in Madison. Any member wishing to comment on a resolution after April 20 will be able to do so at the live reference committee hearings held during the Annual Meeting.

Each year, the Speaker of the House appoints members to serve on three reference committees for the purpose of considering resolutions, receiving testimony at reference committee hearings during the Annual Meeting and making recommendations to the HOD relative to the resolutions. Comments made through VRCs will be reviewed by reference committee members along with testimony received at the traditional in-person reference committee hearings.

The VRCs, which were launched prior to the 2013 Annual Meeting, stem from a commitment by Speaker Charles Rainey, MD, JD, to facilitate increased participation in the Society’s policy-making process and allow members who cannot attend the Annual Meeting to submit their views on resolutions.

If you have questions about the VRCs, the policy-making process or Annual Meeting in general, e-mail communications@wismed.org.
