November summit will explore surgical infection prevention

Presented by the Wisconsin Division of Public Health and the Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Surgery, the 2015 Surgical Site Infection Summit III Nov. 19 is a half-day conference for surgeons about the prevention of surgical site infections. Held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Madison from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Surgical Site Infection Prevention: Establishing a Collaborative Pathway to Improve Patient Outcomes, will explore the incidence and severity of surgical site infections and the role evidence-based interventional practices play in reducing that risk to patients.

Society member Michael Roskos, MD, has been invited to speak. A surgeon at Mayo Clinic Health System-Franciscan Healthcare in La Crosse, Dr. Roskos will present “The Surgeon as a Surgical Champion” and also participate in a collegial roundtable with Donald Fry, MD, MPA, Healthcare Solutions of Chicago; David Leaper, MD, ChM, University of Huddersfield, United Kingdom; and Gwen Borlaug, CIC, MPH, with the Wisconsin Division of Public Health and Charles Edmiston, PhD, Medical College of Wisconsin, who also will serve as moderator.
