Neuroscience research award applications due July 31

Students studying neuroscience at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) or the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (UWSMPH) can apply for the Bennett Hiner Research Award. Applications for the $500 scholarship are due to the Wisconsin Neurological Society (WNS) office by July 31. The winner will be notified in early September and will receive their award and present their research at the WNS annual conference Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Blue Harbor Resort in Sheboygan.

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Be a current MD candidate in good standing enrolled at MCW or UWSMPH. (PhD and PhD candidates are not eligible.)
  • Provide an abstract from their most recently completed research (within the past two years) in the neurosciences.
  • Demonstrate leadership experience while in medical school.

The award was created in 2012 in the memory of Bennett Hiner, the son of past WNS president Bradley Hiner, MD. Bennett Hiner was a medical student at the University of Southern California of Medicine and actively involved in neuroscience research, who passed away unexpectedly in his sleep in 2011 at the age of 26.

The application and materials can be sent by e-mail, fax 920.882.3655 or mail to 563 Carter Court, Suite B, Kimberly, WI 54136.
