Council to discuss Zika virus at upcoming meeting

The Wisconsin Medical Society’s Council on Health Care Quality and Population Health will hear from Diep Hoang Johnson, regarding the Zika virus at its May 12 meeting. A vector-borne epidemiologist working in the Bureau of Communicable Diseases at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Ms. Hoang Johnson will present information on the virus, including its potential dangers and effect on pregnant women and their babies.

Also on the agenda are updates on the work of the Women’s Health and Gun Violence subgroups and the Opioid Task Force—all initiatives stemming from the Council’s previous meetings—as well as the five-year review of a number of Society policies.

All Society members are welcome to attend the meeting, which is being held at 1 p.m. at Society headquarters. An agenda and meeting materials are available in the members-only section of the Society website.* Members also may e-mail Casey Pieper in the Society’s Government and Legal Affairs Department or call her at 608.442.3843 for more information.
