Both HIPAA and the Advancing Care Information (ACI) component of the Quality Payment Program under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 require physicians to protect their patient information by conducting a security risk analysis. In fact, physicians cannot score any points in the ACI category if their security risk analysis is insufficient.
Although the process is complex, understanding the components of security risk analysis can help make the process more manageable.
A one-hour webinar being offered Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. will focus on the security risk analysis process under HIPAA and how to scope a quality improvement project to achieve success. The presenter is Laura G. Hoffman, JD, assistant director of federal affairs for the American Medical Association in Washington, D.C.
