An in-depth comparison of radiology services across Wisconsin is featured in the latest “Did You Know: Information you need about the population you serve.”
Through this new online feature, the Society aims to increase awareness of some of the differences in health care cost and quality in Wisconsin based on region, demographics, procedures, treatments and conditions. For example, when it comes to radiology utilization, in billed dollars per member per month, 27 counties are above the state average of $10.35. Neither Milwaukee County ($9.89) or Dane County ($8.55) are in that higher utilization group.
“We’ve been exploring WHIO (Wisconsin Health Information Organization) data to delve into costs and quality of care associated with a myriad of health conditions in Wisconsin and it’s truly fascinating,” said Bud Chumbley, MD, chief medical advisor for Wisconsin Medical Society Holdings Corp. “This new platform is a way for us to share that information with Society members and others who may use it to affect health care policy and delivery.”
In addition to radiology, topics addressed to date include diabetes and congestive heart failure. The next post explores knee replacement, and Medicaid information will be added soon. A new topic is planned each week.
“We’re just getting started,” said Dr. Chumbley, “We also plan to explore timely, health care-related issues as they develop regionally and nationally, and we invite Society members to ask questions about topics that interest them and we’ll do what we can to provide more information.”
