Governor declares April 16-22 Healthcare Decisions Week

To increase awareness of the importance of advance care planning (ACP) for all adults, Gov. Scott Walker has proclaimed April 16-22, 2017, Healthcare Decisions Week in Wisconsin.

In alignment with National Healthcare Decisions Day, Gov. Walker signed a proclamation that recognizes ACP as a process that occurs throughout life and encourages Wisconsin citizens to have in-depth conversations with their loved ones about their health care wishes and document those wishes in an advance directive. This effort also recognizes the importance of improving ACP systems and policies within health care organizations.

Honoring Choices Wisconsin (HCW), an initiative of the Wisconsin Medical Society, assists health care organizations and community partners across the state to engage in ACP initiatives during Wisconsin’s Healthcare Decisions Week and throughout the year. Click here to learn more about HCW.

The Society, the State Bar of Wisconsin and many other organizations in the state have endorsed Healthcare Decisions Week and are committed to engaging the public on this critical issue.
