Vision Initiative survey seeks physician input on board certification

The “Vision Initiative” Commission is currently seeking physician feedback regarding continuing board certification. Appointed in February, the Commission has begun its work with a comprehensive assessment of the current continuing board certification system. Physicians are asked to complete this survey and to share it with colleagues.

Formed in 2017 in response to ongoing concerns about maintenance of certification requirements, Continuing Board Certification: Vision for the Future is a multistakeholder group that aims to re-envision continuing board certification. Commission members, who were selected from 176 nominees from 42 states, represent a broad cross-section of physicians from a wide variety of specialties and practice settings, as well as national specialty and state medical societies, hospitals and health systems, health care organizations, and the general public.

The Commission will hold hearings and seek feedback on concepts and ideas during the process and will periodically release public reports about their findings. Its final recommendations will be submitted to the American Board of Medical Specialties and its Member Boards on February 1, 2019.
