Newsmakers: Society member appointed to Medicare Payment Advisory Commission

Wisconsin Medical Society member Jonathan Jaffery, MD, MS, MMM, is one of five new members appointed to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) on Wednesday.

“MedPAC provides valuable insight and advice to Congress on myriad Medicare issues,” said Gene L. Dodaro, Comptroller General of the United States and head of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), in this press release. Congress established MedPAC in 1997 to analyze access to care, cost and quality of care, and other key issues affecting Medicare.

Doctor Jaffery is a professor of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and a practicing nephrologist. He serves as the chief population health officer at UW Health and as the president and CEO at UW Health ACO, Inc., where he is responsible for the overall development, coordination, and implementation of UW Health’s population health management strategy.

The Government Accountability Office is an independent, nonpartisan agency that exists to support Congress in meeting its constitutional responsibilities. It examines the use of public funds; evaluates federal programs and policies; and provides analyses, recommendations, and other assistance to help Congress make informed oversight, policy, and funding decisions.
