The State of Wisconsin’s Medical Examining Board (MEB) reviews for potential discipline more than 500 complaints filed each year against physicians. Its 10 physician and three public members’ primary responsibility is to protect the public, while also grappling with administrative issues such as establishing different types of licenses and the requirements for obtaining and maintaining a Wisconsin license to practice medicine.
In the latest episode of the Society’s WisMed OnCall podcast, current MEB chair Ken Simons, MD, talks with host Mark Grapentine, JD, about what it’s like to serve on the MEB, what initiatives he’s fostered since joining the MEB in 2011 and how the opioid crisis has affected recent MEB activity.
